The Four Rules of Gun Safety

Guns are might be a weapon that could save a life. For some of us, it is a matter of passion and enthusiasm. In the wrong hand, or if held carelessly, however, there’s no doubt that it could be fatal. There are no second chances with a gun.
Thus, to protect people and to avoid accidents, the four rules of gun safety were developed. Learn about these rules here and follow them at all times:

Rule # 1: Assume That Your Gun is Loaded – Always

Consider your - and every other - gun to be loaded at all times. Until and unless you aren’t 100% sure, you just can’t assume that the gun is unloaded. Even if it’s your gun, and you unloaded it the last time you kept it, always double-check it. There’s no exception to this rule, even if you kept it aside on your table an hour ago!

Rule # 2: Don’t Point the Gun at Something you do not Intend to Destroy

Your firearm should never be aimed at a position where you don’t intend to shoot. Decide the safest muzzle direction and keep your gun pointed in that direction. Never point the gun towards yourself or any other person. Remember, the first rule, the gun is always loaded, thus avoid being careless and keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction.

Rule # 3: Keep your Finger off the Trigger

This rule should be practiced 100 percent of the time you’re holding a gun. What if you accidentally pull the trigger? You may shoot at something or someone you had no intention to.
As long as your finger is away from the trigger, you’re handling your gun safely. Every time you pick up your gun, hold it in a way that your finger is away from the trigger. Not doing so can lead to injuries and even death.

Rule # 4: Focus on your Target and know what’s Behind it

Use sights to focus on your intended target. These devices help in shooting the target only and reduce the chances of incorrect and inaccurate shooting. Bullets can go beyond and through your intended target. Thus, always know what’s behind your target in order to ensure safety.
There’s nothing such as ‘accidental shooting’. Follow these rules every time you’re handling a gun.
